My Shoes, My Joy!

My shoe fetish covers all facets of my wardrobe including my golf shoes. Foot Joy offers a customized look and choice of various design details The My Joy golf shoe collection. offers 3 choices, ‘Dry Joys’ which are a waterproof shoe with a more narrow fit, #2 ‘The Spikeless Shoe’ (it’s really spikeless? ) and #3 The Contour Series which has a fit that is similar to a running shoe. Their site is very user friendly and walks you through each step with pictures as you add personalized touches to ‘your’ shoes. They even offer embroidery details such as a 4 leaf clover, skull and lightning bolt. Hm-mm no lightning bolt, that’s asking for bad luck on a rainy day.

Once your creation is complete you have to direct the order through your local golf store or pro shop. The production time-line is around 3 weeks.

I’m working on choosing my first pair with elements of the Chip Chic Golf logo colors. Thank god they don’t offer the rainbow of Pantone chips! I wouldn’t have the shoes until November.

Lela

As the weather becomes warmer, my thoughts turn to what I will be wearing this season on the golf course. In my search for upcoming shows that Chip Chic Golf will be participating in for the buying season, I have connected with Lela Designs. A fellow Canadian company I admire, not only for their fashion forward approach in their quality garments but for their green sense. Lela Designs works in ‘environmentally milled fabrics’ , that are manufactured in Canada.

I know you’re asking, ‘But what about the clothes?’ Totally hot, sexy and made out of great fibers! What more can you ask for? With a roster of LPGA players wearing the line, will you be next? I know, I will be.

Go Green or Go Greener

Summer Peony

With Earth Day ( April 22, 2008 ) fast approaching we’re attending a tree planting event in our local area this weekend. Fortunately for my luck, it looks like I’m not asking too much of my golfing friends as there are not too many courses open in Ontario just yet! I can only hope the ground is not frozen when we try to plant some seedlings this weekend - otherwise I’ll need that dented 5 iron of mine.

Not standing too high on my soap box (as you know I discuss green issues at times) but my hope is that everyone pauses to look at their carbon footprint and tries to reduce it. Small changes in your normal daily routine (what we reduce, re-use, recycle, clean our houses with, choice of light bulbs, cotton shopping bag vs plastic) can all add up to make huge changes globally, eventually. There are so many small ways to change our impact in the everyday environment that we exist unconditionally in. Please give it some thought.

My personal experience started with creating Chip Chic Golf, I was aware that I wanted to contribute to something very important - there are many, many worthy things to fight for. For me the environment was clear choice, we plant a tree for every bag we sell. We also plant trees for events we contribute to.

On a personal level, I started to look at the cleaning products in my house and discovered how toxic they were and switched to more environmentally friendly choices. It may sound a little daunting, but everyday there are more ‘Greener’ choices which really makes you look and weigh which ones to choose but, thankfully, it’s a great choice. I admit it is very hard to change the path you travel everyday, but if you just look at one small thing and try to change that, it gets easier.

Okay, I’m done. No more soap box. Next post: Nudity & the LPGA

Mr. Trevor Immelman!

Trevor
Well today’s Master’s round was very exciting! Trevor Immelman not only played a great shot on the 15th hole named ‘Firethorn’ but he looked so great doing it! Cutie!

I think the Hole No #15 is appropriately named, getting the ball over the pond safely could create a thorn in anyone’s score. Trevor did a great job today.

I can’t wait to see how the rounds play out on playoff Sunday.

I hope you will join me for Master of the Game.

Are you the Master of Your Game?

Phil M - The Masters

To celebrate this super important PGA tournament I have created a game for you to try out for the weekend. I will be playing along on Sunday with a close group of golfites. Look for bad photos to follow
On a sheet of paper make the following list:
Amen Corner
Rae’s Creek
Ornamentals
Eisenhower Tree
Magnolia Creek
Founders Circle
Bridges
Crow’s Nest
Masters Club
Ike’s Pond
Par 3 Fountain
Record Fountain
Arnold Palmer
Jack Nicklaus
The Green Jacket

Cut up each name and fold, put in a golf trophy or a flower vase. Each person should pull out one name, which is then assigned to them - if there are fewer people then names, eliminate some names or, choose multiple names. Now, choose your poison and whenever an announcer says the name/s you have pulled you must take a drink. Now if this is too tame you can choose to add tags that, when an announcer says, everyone must take a drink; such as ‘Butler’s Cabin’ or when they review ‘Tiger’s round’, the name of a ‘hole’s Flower’. You can add just about anything to this list - but please drink responsibly, knowing that Sunday is another pressure cooker day - and the pros’s think they have it rough. Remember, not being green at the end of Sunday’s round, is desirable.

Tequila Update from Morelia, Mexico

Morelia, The Ladies

The Pro-Am took place today, here is a photo of our Canadian group that played. Looking forward to hearing the results from Lianne Ritchie (on the far right). Her email installments (thank you) describe Tres Marias as a fabulous property that has a very challenging course. With their work cut-out, in a literal sense, there are actual holes cut into the mountain range. Scare me Sounds playable to me - as long as there are no water hazards - the ball can just bounce of the rocks and down the fairway towards the green. What could be easier, right?

Check out the first hole!

Morelia 1st hole

Like I said, pretty straight forward, except for that large valley in the way of the fairway.

Ole! Tequila & The Tee

mm Beer

As we move into the next major for the LPGA, The Corona Championship in Morelia, Mexico I’m excited to report of fellow Canadian amateur’s & pro playing the upcoming event! Reporting from the tee’s Lianne Ritchie will tell us what’s happening at Tres Marias GC for the exciting Pro-Am scramble, lead by team leader Lorie Kane.

The team consists of: Mary Kraus, Sharon Montgomery-Greenwood, Lana Bertram & Lianne Ritchie and team leader Lorie Kane. I can’t wait to tell you about the Pro Am ( 5 some scramble) , what the players are wearing and build up to the tournament. Look for Tequila & Lime stories from the road or should I say Corona? Hmm, both are satisfying beverages!

The Green Jacket of the LPGA

Picture 1

I have always been intrigued about why the winner of The Kraft Nabisco Championship jumps into a body of water after they win this major. The body of water is referred as ‘Poppy’s Pond’ named after the tournament director Terry Wilcox - his grandchildren call him Poppy, hence the name. It is also called Champions Pond, since the tradition of jumping into the pond started back in 1988 by Amy Alcott. But even this tradition soon expanded.

Tandem pond jumping started when Dinah Shore joined Amy Alcott for her 3rd win in 1991. The most bizarre match, I think, is Celine Dion jumping in with Karrie Web in 2000. These days it seems the winner doesn’t dive alone, the defending champion Morgan Pressel was accompanied by her grandmother and her caddy! Safe to swim in numbers I guess.

Question: how deep is the pond and does it have a mud bottom ?- ewggh! I would leave my shoes on!

It seems the ‘Ladies of the Lake’ are so popular that the LPGA wants you to vote for the best plunge.

I’m sure we will be all watching to see who wins but most importantly which player gets to go for a swim and with who?

At least this green jacket doesn’t shrink when wet.
