The Donald & Scotland

November 7th, 2008

Picture 2

It seems that there be more fescue than the Donald’s hair with the approval of his beyond golf resort near Abeerden. The complex will be 1,400 acres , 2 courses, hotel & houses. It took two years of bitter  battling between environmentalists, government & local residents.

Not unlike Mr Trump it is said that he ’steamrolled’  to get the approval in the two year battle. It’s a hard fight, the golf mecca will bring jobs & investment to the area but the area chosen is part of the Scottish wild life trust. I have been to Scotland and it is a beautiful place, one can only hope that the project stays within the boundaries that have been agreed upon. Many conservationists have commented that any developing will damage birds & wildlife indigenous to the area.

Is there not enough golf courses in Scotland? I think the Donald should think of conservation vs 2 courses & massive structures.

The next question will be, who could actually afford to golf there? I love golf but sometimes I like the environment more. Many have commented that by the time construction starts the global cash crunch might be the only blessing to halt the project.

Have you Oob’d today?

October 30th, 2008

Picture 2

I came across a really interesting site today known as oobgolf. Launched in late 2006, the site provides amateurs with many cool features to play with. Did I mention it’s free!

You can transmit your score from each hole from a web based cell/ blackberry. Scores are tabulated from local and nationwide leader-boards. Each person has a profile page listing their scores and other preferred information. Another awesome feature is creating a personal ‘on line’ golf bag. ( I think they need to have some of our bags in their accessory section) Once you add a product to your bag you can actually rate it in several categories, you can also track your performance with the clubs you actually use.

There are so many other features to choose from searching tournaments in specific countries, building groups, course reviews & a search engine that shows you a local map of each course and witty golf blogs & articles that wont have you yawning. It just goes on from there, it’s the facebook (crackbook) for anyone who even just likes golf!

Get oob’ing - that’s what I’ll be doing tonight.

Why is Golf Digest in my mailbox?

October 25th, 2008

Picture 1

Sometimes you will have to pardon my late breaking news, recently I wondered why all the sudden I was receiving Golf Digest in the mail for the second time? Okay the last issue was nice to receive with Justin Timberlake showing his sexy bod on the cover, but really past looking at his interview I was kinda bored. This is a guy’s golfing mag - if I have to read one of those it will only be Golf Punk - which I totally love. I have tried to research reasons put forth by Condé Nast, but there’s just a flat boring excuse released to Reuters and such. With a rate-base of 600,00 and only 6 issues a year published don’t you think that the magazine was worth keeping around? Susan Reed ( GFW’s editor) accepted the position of Oprahs ‘O’ magazine as quoted in certain gossip sites, I presume that it made it easier for the Condé Nast to dump the magazine, pointing the blame to ‘the economy’. Hm-mm.

I can only hope Vogue puts a bit more effort into their sports reporting section, but I don’t think I will see tips from Annika . (I think she would be a great fit for that publication as guest writer)

Nancy Berkely‘ put forth the best thought relating to the surprise closure:
“Golf is an unusual sport since it cannot be played without passing through an admission gate. Unlike soccer or basketball, for instance, where you can just play at some community field, there is always a gate to pass through with golf. And the gatekeepers in this industry of over 16,000 courses in the U.S. are 99 percent male. The industry needs to fix that. There are many ways to find that fix”

Okay, I never like to get down & out on the whole ‘male domination vibe’ of the sport, but I think the closure of this magazine says to women: hey read a mans magazine that will bore you to death and to top it off there’s no fashion editorial. It gives me a great idea.. maybe there could be a Golf Punk for Women? I could always use a spread with a hot chap presenting the latest Big Bertha!

A new project for Chip Chic Golf…

And the Winner is…

Adam Scott

As I searched for a reason to blog about Adam Scott, I realized that many players do not have their own official websites? I thought this was rather strange. As I reviewed several players sites, I wondered why the pro’s wouldn’t take advantage of having a place that they could post stories, photos, blogs and upcoming events? Many players use the PGA’s website for their profiles, very boring!

Male Top Picks:

  1. Adam Scott - of course you know his site would be #1, a man that is hotter than the new the Bond - Daniel Craig - well almost
  2. Tiger Woods - great updates, lots of flash
  3. Mike Weir - eh, he’s Canadian!
  4. Graeme McDowell
  5. Greg Norman
  6. Colin Montgomerie - yes really…
  7. Justin Rose - lots of photos

Unfortunately the likes of Camilo Villegas, Trevor Immelman, Jesper Parnevik, Stuart Cink and Sergio Garcia have their profiles on the PGA site. I looked at several sites (no names mentioned) that were template driven without and personalization. I know playing the game is more important than building a website, but it’s really not that hard to personalize an outlet that is sooo important.

Female Top Picks:

  1. Natalie Gublis - very cool, great design
  2. Annika Sorenstam - totally Annika
  3. Alena Sharp - awesome - check it out!
  4. Cristie Kerr - her charity Birdies for Breast Cancer, the site also links to her blog
  5. Lorena Ochoa - no comment

The LPGA site actually has great navigation for each players profile, if the player has an official site, there is a live link to their personal site.

If the Bra Fits Wear It

October 6th, 2008

Natalie G

How can Natalie drive the ball with her ample décolletage, maybe she’s wearing the proper support?

I find the biggest challenge isn’t teeing up but getting the hell out of my lingerie drawer while my friends are waiting for me to get out the door, what bra should I be wearing? I know it sounds silly and all, considering that I have dressed many actress’s over the years, so I decided to call upon an industry specialist I have worked with on many films. With 25 years of fitting experience, Vasilia owner of Avec Plaisir spent some time enlightening me on the latest technology on bras specifically designed for golf! Most of the bras come from Europe, these companies have produced fine women’s undergarments for a very long time.

I really like the Energy bra from Marie Jo they have a great range of bras that have been perfected for 3 ranges of sport, one of them being golf. The Energy bra has a soft under-wire for support, breathable fabric to keep the girls cool, comes in an very large size range from B to a F and 2 colour choices, peach & black. Checkout the companies website, it’s really great and well designed.

Another option is the Gemma Tess bra, it has a padded shoulder strap, seamless cup and has a pretty fine netting over the cup. It has a great size range also from regular sizes to full figure.

The key to remember is comfort, fit and breath-ability. Forget Victoria’s Secret, if you have the opportunity go for a proper bra fitting, trust me you will never look back! You only look down and think wow, they are looking superfine.

If you are in Toronto check out Avec Plaisir  they have some fabulous lingerie and swimwear.

Ladies Night Out

September 21st, 2008

Picture 1

There is a cool event happening tomorrow night at Golf Town in Etobicoke.

Courtney Billing will be hosting a private event for ladies only - ( thank god no husbands or partners can attend). There will be free instructional clinics, awesome shopping and yummy food. Not too mention, prizes. This event will be the kick off for Links for Women fall instructional clinics, I think it’s a great way to take in some instruction before the snow touches down. Those are tough words but last years memory of winter still chills me to the bone. Why not think ahead to practicing up for a golf/ beach vacation this year. Hm-mm say some where in the Caribbean? If the evening strikes a cord, you can sign up for a 4 part series for a very reasonable price. Get your girls out and try to attend, I’ll be there with mine.

Details:

Date: Sunday Sept. 21, Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm and opening night is free!

The Most Awesome Tournament Ever!

September 20th, 2008

Golf Fore the Cure!

As I reported earlier Chip Chic Golf sponsored a corporate team at the Golf Fore the Cure National Event held this past Monday at the Toronto Ladies Club (the only private women’s club in North America!) The event was a truly excellent experience from registration, good swag, the RCGA staff and volunteers, a lunch & dinner to be remembered. The playing field involved 150 female players from novice to pro. This event provides something for each player.

Each group was treated to a team photograph with Alena Sharp, then of course for a worthy donation each player could compete with Alena for the closest to the pin shot. My team came close but Alena came closer, next year, my friend, I’ll ace it!

Talking about goals, the Golf Fore the Cure program has raised $459,206, this year the event has set a goal at $550,000. With the amazing stories shared that evening at dinner, I know this event will exceed this years goal to support the best research for breast cancer in Canada.

Second to the cause, Chip Chic Golf debuted part of the upcoming Spring/ Summer 2009 designs - the ‘Clearly Yours Collection’.

I recruited the services of our in-house male model Raymond. I think he enjoyed entertaining the ladies, but he froze his ___ off. Opps, sorry Ray! I promise next time it won’t be the hot pink speedo.

I know it sounds very gushy, but this event was perfect to the tee! Chip Chic Golf is in for next year.

Thanks to my team: Dawn Lewis, Courtney Billing & Erica Westeroth

End to a great day

Junktion of the Arts

September 5th, 2008

Arts Junktion

It’s been busy times, working on our new Spring/ Summer collection for 2009. I really had to clean out my studio! I didn’t want to dump my materials anywhere. I asked around and discovered Arts Junktion. A fabulous resource for materials from several industries for the Toronto School Board. There are contributions from the film industry, fashion, art gallery’s and many more.As I pulled up to the door I was greeted by Eileen Orr, her tile reads ‘ Keeper of the Treasure Cave’, as she guided me on a tour of the vast facility that houses several objects d’art I was thoroughly impressed with her organization of materials. From posters, magazines, huge 15ft plaster pillars and theater costumes from Shaw & Stratford, teachers have access to these objects for their students. Eileen shared several stories of student art exhibits that sounded wonderful. FYI there is also a Junktion for the Peel Board.I was so happy to know that my materials will make there way to another form of art and expression. What about your business? Do you have anything to donate rather than throwing out useful items. Arts Junktion is by appointment, as they also create schedules for teachers to drop in and treasure hunt, they can also make arrangements for pick up if there is a large shipment involved. Keep them in mind next time your cleaning house!

Show me Pink!

August 21st, 2008

Toronto Ladies GC

Chip Chic Golf will be proudly showing pink for the National Golf Fore the Cure event September 15, 2008 at the Ladies Golf Club of Toronto!

I’m so looking forward to playing this tournament, a fabulous course & excellent cause.

RCGA organizer Stephanie Palmer has reported that Alena Sharp ( Canada’s No #1 ranked player player on the LPGA circuit ) will be taking time out with participants for some one on one time. How brief that maybe, it sounds really great to me!

One of the other exciting moments of the event will be unveiling our new collections for Spring/ Summer 2009. Look for us on location.

I’m looking forward to sharing my team’s story leading up to the event. We are still looking for one player, do you have any suggestions?

CPGA Womens Championship

August 8th, 2008

Simmlands

Yesterday was the kick off for the Womens CPGA Championship held at Credit Valley Golf & CC the Pro Am was sponsored by Simmlands insurance. All amateurs and pros were treated to a beautiful day on a lovely course. The club has a great practice range along with a club house that is perched on the edge of hill overlooking credit river valley. Nike presented an informal fashion show with several changes highlighting the upcoming collection. I preferred the men’s collection vs. the women’s ( hmm.. maybe it was the models).

Today not so lucky, I was going to go out and observe but several thunder storms moved in and out of the area. It was torrential downpour for parts of the day. I hope the rain will hold off for a quick practice session at the range & checking out who will contend for the $ 70, 000 purse tomorrow!

Our bags provided for the Pro Am! “Putt on my green”
